Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri praised the government's decision to reduce taxes on the agricultural sector, considering that this measure is a relief for producers affected by drought and falling commodity prices. In a message disseminated through social media, Macri congratulated the president and the minister of economy for this action and expressed his desire to continue reducing unnecessary public spending and eliminating taxes he deems harmful to the national economy.
The partial reduction of taxes will apply to crops such as soybeans, wheat, corn, and sunflowers, as detailed by Minister of Economy Luis Caputo during a press conference. This measure will be in effect from Monday and will extend until the end of June.
As part of the negotiations in Congress, other important projects are being discussed, such as the possible elimination of the PASO elections, the implementation of the Clean Record, and the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court.
Regarding the new rates detailed after the announcement, a reduction of taxes is established for soybeans, soybean derivatives, corn, sorghum, wheat, barley, and sunflowers. Additionally, regional economies will benefit from the complete elimination of taxes.
For his part, Minister of Economy Luis Caputo emphasized the importance of maintaining a fiscal surplus in order to continue with tax reductions. He pointed out that Argentina needs a surplus of 8,000 million dollars, a figure that is currently not being reached. He highlighted that, while he would like to eliminate taxes permanently, it is a process that will take time.
